As of July 1, 2015, uninsured drivers in Tennessee caught driving without the proper insurance will face an increased fine, up from $100 to now $300. Following January 1, 2016, law enforcement agents could have your vehicle towed immediately if you are not able to provide proof of insurance. Leading up to January 1, 2017, Tennessee will be working on implementing a new online system to verify drivers’ insurance. The system is designed to track down drivers who have not purchased valid insurance through their vehicle registration information. Owners without insurance will be unable to renew their vehicle’s registration.
